Owl’s Nest is Up!

The final parts we needed to erect the owl’s nest came in, and so we raised it up!

It wasn’t easy; it took three of us to maneuver the pole with the nest box attached and set it into the concrete base.

The nest stands about 11 feet above the grass, which is plenty high according to the instructions. The nest box itself has about 3 inches of mulch inside, which was also recommended.

Hopefully we will get a nesting pair of owls soon. Let everybody know if you see any!

The owl box in is our park.

I can’t wait to see some new neighbors. I love the sound they make. They sit on my flag pole all the time. Also can’t wait to see how they can impact the gopher population. Great job guys!

looks great, but the 2 pipes held together by a coupling are loose. This allows the owl box to move and turn. Also, if you move the bottom pole, the top sways from side to side, because the coupling holding the 2 pipes together is loose. Someone needs to take a pipe wrench and tighten the pipe so the wiggle and turning of the coop will not move. The owls will get seasick if ever we get one.

Thanks, Gerry. I’ll look at the coupling. You probably noticed that the bottom pole is not actually set in the concrete, but slides into a pvc sleeve. This allows the whole unit to be raised up and then removed so that the owl box can be cleaned out each season without getting up on a ladder.
