“Fixing A Hole Where The Rain Gets In”

On Long Way we had a small issue with a drain covering a sewer clean-out. Rain water entered the drain, but it had nowhere to go.

So, the water just settled into the dirt and eventually found its way under a resident’s unit. Not good.

The solution was to break out the old valve cover and install a new one, one without a drain lid.

This was the old drain cover.
It covered a sewer cleanout; it wasn’t a drain at all. So the water just soaked into the ground.
The solution was to install a different valve box, one with a solid cover. Fortunately, we found one at the shed. We had to chip out the old box, and cut the new one down to make it work.
Once the old box was chipped out, we added to sand to make a new base for the new box.
We set the new valve box in and packed asphalt around it.
With the lid in place, much less water will be entering the sewer clean-out enclosure. Hopefully, this will keep the water from flooding and making its way under the resident’s home.
