More Maintenance For Our Substations
SDMeyers was out this past week to perform infrared imaging on our transformers. The heat signatures produced by the transformers will give us a better understanding of their overall condition.
This was last performed in 2014, and by comparing the old results with the new results we’ll see if there has been any significant degradation. The transformers are now 43 years old, and it’s more important than ever to keep up with their maintenance.
There is a shortage of transformers across the nation, and should one of ours fail, it may be very difficult to get a replacement quickly.
What was the result of the infrared checks? How are they doing? Thanks
Stan has more info, but a couple of the transformers are not looking so good. They have a “end of life” date of 50 years, according to Dynalectric, and we are approaching that date in a few years.
