Political Signs. What we can and can not do.
Each election year comes with lots of political advertising, including signs and banners around town and in yards of homes. While you can turn off the TV or mute the political commercials, you cannot do that with signs and banners. You may or may not like the candidate who is on the political sign. You may not even care. But some people detest looking at them and want them to come down.
One of the best things about being an American is that free speech is protected. The California Civil Code allows for political signs in manufactured home parks. The CA Civ. Code 799.10, also part of the Mobile Home Residency Law, states, political signs/flags “may not be displayed in excess of a period of time from 90 days prior to an election to 15 days following the election…”. The code also states that the size is limited to 6 square feet, or a size of 2’x3’. Right now, the civil code and our rules do not address quantity limits. The signs cannot infringe on common areas. The code refers to all elections including primary, special, and general elections.
We live in a wonderful democracy where we have the freedom to disagree and peacefully share our differing political views. The Board asks everyone to be respectful of our neighbors’ political views. Thank you!
So, the political signs that are up right now must come down on March 21st and can then be put up on August 14th and come down on November 21st?
