Part 1: The Mystery of the Stop Sign
Sometime in the near past, someone installed a Stop Sign at our Richland Rd entrance. No one alerted us; it just appeared.
Well, that’s all and well, but whoever installed it failed to notice the irrigation riser at the location they chose to install the sign.
An irrigation riser is a sure sign that an irrigation pipe is directly underground. Therefore, care must be taken when digging or installing a post.
Usually.
In this case, not. The sign post was pounded in, and sure enough, it broke our irrigation line. It also narrowly missed an electrical line.
Lorenzo discovered the break Monday morning, which was obvious by all the water flooding the area, and he cut away the landscaping to expose the exact spot the Stop Sign post was pounded in.
He dug down and removed the post, and exposed the broken irrigation line, which he repaired professionally.
But the question remains: who came onto our property, without notice, and installed the sign and broke our irrigation line? I asked Lorenzo to lock up the Stop Sign at our shed compound. At some point, I’m sure someone will be asking about the Stop Sign.
I’ll be happy to return the Stop Sign to them.
Once they pay the repair bill, naturally. I will keep everybody posted.
Was this an official stop sign from the city? If so, you could send a copy of the bill directly there. You might also check with the contractor of the new school for more information. Thanks for getting on repairs so quickly.
The city responded to my inquiry, and they admitted they had no idea who installed the stop sign. The school contractors also do not know. So as of now it still remains a mystery!
